Catherine & Roy || An Elegant DC Fathom Gallery Wedding
Love transcends culture, language, and physical distance. To celebrate the love and the union of these two beautiful souls, Catherine and Roy’s family and friends came from as far as South Korea, California, and Texas. Their intimate wedding celebrations brought so much joy and happy tears to everyone who was part of their wedding day.
We arrived at Kimpton Mason & Rook in DC for the details and getting ready part of the day. Coming from a traditional Korean family, the immediate female members of Catherine’s family came together in their Hanboks (traditional Korean dress for special occasions) to celebrate Catherine’s wedding day. The intricate details were embroidered onto the Hanboks by the hands of Korean artisans. Catherine looked like a traditional Korean princess in her Hanbok! Afterward, Elly from SAY Makeup did the final touch-ups and Catherine’s mom helped her to put on the elegant and modern wedding dress from Lovely Bride. Our lovely bride completed her look with fall-inspired bouquet in blush and burgundy by Christine Chung Flowers, and we were ready for the ceremony!
Catherine and Roy’s wedding ceremony was held at the Shrine of the Sacred Heart in DC. This church was built in the late 1800s and has so much history! Every corner has beautiful and meaningful adornments. The ceremony began with Roy walking down the aisle with his mom, then followed by his best man. Catherine walked down the aisle with her man of honor and brother. Though the bride and groom themselves did not cry, their family members teared up as they said their vows to each other and were so happy for them!
We then headed over to Meridian Hill Park for some family portraits and bride & groom portraits. You can tell that both Catherine and Roy were so much more relaxed after their ceremony because the most nerve-wrecking part is over, and all that’s left are food and celebrations! But before we headed over to Fathom Gallery for the reception, Catherine and Roy practiced their first dance one more time at the park. I must say they enjoyed the fact that they are married more than the practice itself!
The reception was held at the intimate gallery space and roof terrace of the Fathom Gallery. The dining room was decorated with arrangements by Christine Chung Flowers and their engagement photos that I took back in early summer suspended by wire. With dinner prep by Chef Ed of Relish Catering, the guests enjoyed their diverse 3-course meals featuring Catherine and Roy’s favorite food, including Jap Chae (Korean glass noodles), gnocchi, and duck confit. To top it off the delicious desserts by the Bakeshop were picked out by the newlyweds, which are their favorite part of the meal! Their reception were filled with toasts by their close friends and family who know them the best, and ended with a heartwarming thank-you speech from the couple. Finally, they danced the night away on the rooftop deck under the tea lights. It was a true celebration of love in many forms!
Congratulations, Catherine and Roy! We are honored to be part of your wedding day and are so happy for you two!
